Why Explainer Videos Are So Popular

Explainer videos are a great way of talking about you and your service/product, how it works and what a customer can expect. Throw in some fun animations, music and a great voiceover to match, they’re really easy to digest and great at getting the message across.

Different Explainer Video Voiceovers

Many explainer videos typically last around 2 minutes with the goal of telling you about a product or service in a lively and fun way, like the one I did for the Greater Manchester Fire Service, or the one for Regency Glass where I lend my voice to their company mascot, Reg.

But some also require a different tone to convey another message, perhaps one that calls for more warmth and heart, like the one I made for Hospice Care.

O2

In this explainer video for O2, the desire was to have a northern voiceover with a friendly and approachable style to explain their service ‘O2 Recycle’. With this sort of tone, it keeps the information easy to digest in a friendly and relatable style.

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service

In this explainer video for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service, they naturally wanted a Manchester Voiceover artist to accompany the film, and I was thrilled to be part of the project. This is a good example of a warm, friendly style voiceover, as the overall vibe of the animation is meant to be friendly and informative, with the voiceover to match.

NHS

Not all Explainer Videos require a friendly tone. As the topics can vary greatly, some videos need a more sensitive voiceover to reflect the subject matter. In this video, on behalf of the University of York, it talks about the research conducted with people who work in Hospices and the impact it has on them, aswell as identifying areas for improvement. For this, the voiceover tone needed to warmer and compassionate to reflect the music and story.

Regency Glass - Deccident

The Northern brand Regency Glass has confirmed me as the voice of their new company mascot, Reg!
Reg will be animated for the company’s content, including all staff training videos and company explainer videos, with the idea that his style is relatable and friendly, removing any corporate feel.

Society for Endocrinology

Some Explainer Videos require a voiceover to be more neutral in tone, to deliver something thats direct and informative. In this example for the You and Your Hormones Society that discusses the purpose of the Pituitary Gland, the voiceover tone is still leaning towards a friendly, informative style, but has a bit more of an educational feel to it, to reflect the content

Innovation Group UK

However in this example for Innovation Group, the video is a step by step on the claims process for a customer. Again, a voiceover that’s friendly is needed but more emphasis being on giving clear information and instructions, taking more of the emotion out of it that some other videos require.

How much does an Explainer Video Voiceover cost?

One of the main considerations on the price is the usage, as this has an effect on the price outside of the standard recording fee. But in a simple example, a 2-minute internal, non broadcast explainer video typically costs £200. However, prices aren’t set in stone and I acknowledge that each project is different and has its own parameters, so it’s always best to get in touch to discuss your own needs

How long does it take you to record and deliver your voiceover?

It all depends on how much work Ive got booked at that time, but generally I should be able to deliver your voice over within 24 hours, if not the same day for videos around 2 mins long. If its longer, I’ll let you know in advance when you can expect it back, but I have a swift and efficient turn around time, so you won’t be waiting long

Can you offer a directed session if we need one?

Absolutely! It’s not uncommon for clients to want to listen in while I recird to offer some on the spot direction, so that’s no problem with me

You can connect via Source Connect or most other methods. I just need 24 hours‘ notice make sure I can book it in with you. There’s also no extra charge for live sessions.

Do you record from your own professional home studio?

I do indeed! I record from a StudioBricks VO Edition booth using either a Neumann U87 or Neumann TLM102 microphone. However if you’d prefer me to come to your studio, I’m always open to working on-site

Are there any additional costs to be aware of?

Generally no, once you have given me the details of your project and the intended usage, the quote I give you in final. The only instances additional costs may arise is if you rewrite your script and it needs recording again or you change the usage terms.
